Setup Guide
Configure IPTV for the best possible experience
Once installed, a few smart settings make everything smoother — the right guide, tidy favourites, the best decoder for your device, and family-safe controls.
Setup vs installation — what's the difference?
Installation gets the app on your device and your channels loaded. Setup is the fine-tuning that turns a working service into a great one: organising channels, getting the guide right, choosing the best playback settings for your device, and locking down content for the family. It takes a few minutes and pays off every time you watch.
Many UAE customers skip setup and then complain that IPTV feels clunky — scrolling through 20,000 channels without favourites, wrong program times, or 4K stuttering on Wi-Fi. Five minutes of configuration fixes all of that. Do it once after your free trial or first subscription day.
1. Get the program guide (EPG) right
The EPG shows what's on now and next. If it looks empty or the times are off, it usually just needs a refresh and the correct time zone.
- Force a manual EPG refresh in the player's settings on first setup.
- Set the time offset to GMT+4 (Gulf Standard Time) so program times match the UAE.
- On low-powered devices, reduce the number of EPG days to speed up loading.
- Wait for the initial EPG download to finish before judging the guide — it can take 60–90 seconds on first launch.
If the guide still shows wrong times after setting GMT+4, check whether your device itself is set to the correct time zone in system settings. A TV set to UK or India time will offset the guide even if the player is correct.
2. Organise your channels into favourites
With 20,000+ channels, favourites are essential. Create a few groups so the whole family finds what they want instantly.
- Create groups like Sports, Arabic, Movies, Kids and News
- Add each person's go-to channels to a shared 'Favourites' list
- Hide categories you never watch to reduce clutter
- Set your most-watched group as the default view
- Include backup sport feeds in your Sports group for big matches
Example for a typical Dubai household: a Sports group with beIN and cricket feeds, an Arabic group with MBC and OSN, a Hindi group with Star and Zee, and a Kids group for weekend mornings. That covers 90% of viewing without touching the full channel list.
3. Choose the best playback settings
Default settings work for most people, but a few tweaks improve stability and picture quality on UAE home networks.
| Setting | What it does | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Decoder (HW/SW) | How video is processed | Try HW first; switch to SW if a stream won't play |
| Buffer size | How much video is pre-loaded | Increase slightly on unstable Wi-Fi |
| Auto-frame rate | Matches TV to content | On, for judder-free sport |
| Default quality | Preferred feed | FHD for stability, 4K when wired |
| EPG update interval | How often the guide refreshes | 24 hours is fine for most users |
| External player | Use VLC or another player | Off unless a specific channel needs it |
For 4K on a Firestick, a wired Ethernet adapter often matters more than any in-app setting. See our internet speed guide for connection advice and our buffering guide if streams stutter after setup.
4. Set up parental controls
If children use the TV, ask us to apply the free family-safe profile that removes adult categories entirely. You can also enable your player's PIN-protected parental lock for extra peace of mind.
- Request the family-safe profile via live support — it removes adult categories at server level.
- Enable PIN lock in the player settings for category-level blocking.
- Create a dedicated Kids favourites group with only child-safe channels.
- Hide adult category folders in the player if your app supports category management.
5. Multi-device setup in UAE households
Six-month and annual plans include two simultaneous connections. Set up each device separately with the same login details, but customise favourites per room — Sports and news in the living room, Kids and Movies in the bedroom, for example.
Do not share your login publicly. If you need a third simultaneous stream, add an Extra Connection through our pricing add-ons. Contact us via live support to activate.
6. Quick maintenance habits
- Refresh the EPG once a week if program times drift.
- Clear the app cache monthly on Firestick and Android devices.
- Restart the streaming device before big live events.
- Check for app updates — newer versions often fix playback bugs.
One-time effort, lasting benefit
Spend five minutes on favourites and settings after installing. It's the difference between fighting a giant channel list and enjoying a tidy, TV-like experience every day.

Common questions
Setup FAQ
My guide (EPG) times are wrong — how do I fix them?
Set the EPG time offset to Gulf Standard Time (GMT+4) in your player's settings, then refresh the guide. This aligns program times with UAE local time.
How do I hide adult content for a family setup?
Ask us to apply the free family-safe profile, which removes adult categories entirely. Most players also have a PIN-locked parental control you can enable.
Should I use hardware or software decoding?
Start with Hardware (HW) — it is faster and uses less battery on most devices. If a specific channel will not play or shows a black screen, switch to Software (SW) for that channel.
TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters — which is better?
TiviMate has the best interface on Android TV and Shield but requires a paid premium unlock for some features. IPTV Smarters Pro is free and works on almost every device. We recommend the best fit when you request a trial.
